Marketplace development by a team that runs a live marketplace

We operate roomXplore, a live two-sided rental marketplace, alongside TrackMyPG on the supply side. That experience shapes how we build: the hard problems are not the code. They are getting listings good enough to be searchable, making search reflect what a seeker actually meant, and routing an enquiry to a supplier who will reply. We build marketplaces with those three things treated as the product, and the transaction layer built to match.

You probably need this if

  • Both sides are empty at once
  • Listings are unsearchable
  • Leads land nowhere
  • Transactions leak off-platform

Where these projects go wrong

Four failure modes we see repeatedly. Knowing them up front is most of the battle.

  1. 01

Both sides are empty at once

Buyers leave because there is no supply and suppliers leave because there is no demand. Launching to both sides simultaneously across a whole country is the classic way to fail.

  2. 02

    Listings are unsearchable

Free-text descriptions, no structured attributes, one blurry photo. Filters return nothing useful and the search result page becomes the reason people leave.

  3. 03

    Leads land nowhere

An enquiry goes to an email address nobody checks. The seeker assumes the platform is dead, and in the way that matters, it is.

  4. 04

    Transactions leak off-platform

The two sides exchange numbers on the first message and complete the deal privately, so the marketplace carries the acquisition cost and captures none of the value.

Scope

What you get

Concrete deliverables, not a statement of ambitions.

Discuss your scope
  • Supplier onboarding and listing creation flow
  • Structured listing schema with quality scoring
  • Search and filtering tuned to real query intent
  • Lead capture, routing and response tracking
  • Verification, moderation and trust signals
  • Ratings, reviews and dispute handling
  • Vendor payouts, commission and settlement
  • Marketplace analytics on both supply and demand
How it runs

The engagement, step by step

  1. 01

Pick one side and one place to solve first

A marketplace that is dense in one city beats one that is thin in forty. We narrow the launch geography and seed the constrained side manually before any growth spend.

  2. 02

Design the listing schema before the search

Structured, validated attributes with required photos. Search relevance is mostly a data quality problem wearing an algorithm costume.

  3. 03

Instrument the lead, end to end

Enquiry sent, supplier notified, supplier replied, outcome recorded. Response rate is the health metric, and you cannot improve it if you never measured it.

  4. 04

Add the transaction layer once liquidity exists

Payments, escrow and commission come after matching works. Charging for a match you cannot reliably produce is how early marketplaces stall.

Outcomes

Benefits & business outcomes

What changes when this work is done properly — not activity metrics, business results.

  • 01

    Supply quality treated as product

Listing standards and completeness gates — search cannot save inventory nobody can evaluate.

  • 02

    Search that matches intent

Relevance and filters shaped around how seekers actually query — not only how suppliers titled the listing.

  • 03

    Enquiries that get replies

Routing to suppliers who respond, with visibility when they do not — the difference between a directory and a marketplace.

  • 04

Transactions with split and fee logic

Payments and payouts modelled for two-sided money movement when the model requires it.

Why BuildsInfinity

Why choose BuildsInfinity

Practical reasons teams choose BuildsInfinity for marketplace development — grounded in how we actually work, not a slogan list.

  1. 01

    We run marketplace products ourselves

roomXplore and TrackMyPG experience shapes what we prioritise: supply quality, search and reply rates over feature checklists.

  2. 02

    Cold-start honesty

If you have supply but no demand channel — or the reverse — we say which side to fix first. Marketplace development fails when that is ignored.

  3. 03

    Two-sided incentives in the design

Fees, ranking and messaging designed so both sides have a reason to stay — not a beautiful empty plaza.
